The singer, composer, actor and instrument player Jards Macalé, from Rio de Janeiro, is a fundamental artist in Brasilian music today. Once th partner of Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Maria Bethania and Gal Costa, in several projects in the seventies, Jards Anet da Silva was born in Rio de Janeiro on March 3, 1943. He got the nickname Macalé when he played ball in Ipanema, in honor of the worst Botafogo soccer player then. In the middle of the sixties he broke through as a composer with his own personality. He is a partner of waly Salomão, Duda Machado, Torquato Neto and Vinícius de Moraes. He participated in MPB historical albums like A todo vapor (72, Gal), Transa (73, Caetano Veloso) and Drama - Anjo Exterminado (72, Maria Bethania). As an actor, he has participated in films by Nelson Pereira dos Santos and Leon Hirzman. He made visual arts works with Helio Oiticica, Lygia Clark and Rubens Gerschman.
